How to Clean Pill Box & Anti-Mold, Anti-Bacteria Cleaning Methods

Daily Quick Cleaning (Prevent Stain Buildup)

Suitable for regular plastic portable pill boxes made of PP, ABS, PS

Disassemble fully: Take out dividers, lids and sealing gaskets separately; dead corners easily trap medicine powder and moisture to grow mold.
Rinse with warm water: Flush with 40°C warm water to wash away residual medicine scraps, syrup and powder.
Scrub gently with soft brush: Use a soft toothbrush or sponge to clean gaps, compartment edges and gasket grooves. Do not use steel wool, as scratches will harbor mold.
Dilute mild neutral dish soap: Wipe to remove greasy medicine stains; avoid strong acidic or alkaline cleaners.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water: Soap residue attracts dust and breeds bacteria, rinse twice extra.
Air-dry completely: Place upside down with lid open and gaskets removed; fully air-dry before refilling medicine. Sealed dampness is the top cause of mold growth.

Deep Disinfection & Mold Removal Cleaning (Weekly / Slightly Moldy Surfaces)

Option 1: Food-grade Baking Soda (Mild, Plastic-safe, Household Favorite)

Soak in warm water mixed with 1 spoon of baking soda for 15 minutes
Scrub mold spots and dark crevices with soft brush
Rinse with clean water and air-dry fully in ventilation

Option 2: White Vinegar (Deodorize & Inhibit Mold Spores)

Mix warm water and white vinegar at a 3:1 ratio, soak for 20 minutes
Focus on scrubbing gaps to dissolve medicine residue and eliminate musty odor
Rinse abundantly to remove sour residual smell

Option 3: Food-grade Chlorine Dioxide / Diluted Disinfectant (Heavy Mold / Shared Use)

Ratio: 1000ml clean water + 5ml food-safe disinfectant, soak for 10 minutes

Do not soak for long; rinse immediately after soaking
Minimize use on printed colored pill boxes to prevent fading

Forbidden Cleaners & Operations

Concentrated 84 bleach, long-term soaking in high-concentration alcohol, boiling hot water (most portable pill boxes withstand max 60°C; high heat causes deformation, cracking and aging, leaking gaskets)

Special Cleaning for Silicone Sealing Gaskets (Most Mold-prone Parts)

Remove gaskets, rub gaps separately with baking soda
Black mold spots: Soak in white vinegar then scrub repeatedly for stubborn mildew
Air-dry gaskets alone before reinstallation; damp gaskets cause mold after closing the box

Treatment for Pill Boxes with Black Mold Spots

Superficial light mold: Scrub with vinegar and baking soda, soak for disinfection, air-dry thoroughly for reuse
Mold penetrated deep inside plastic scratches: Micro-pores trap mold permanently, replace the pill box directly. Mycotoxins will contaminate medicine and harm health.

Long-term Anti-mold Storage Tips (More Important Than Cleaning)

Ensure all pills are dry before filling; do not store damp tablets, coated pills or moist capsules long-term
Never touch medicine with wet hands, which bring moisture into the box
Avoid long-term storage of ointments or liquid medicine that easily breed mold
For long-term storage: Disassemble all parts, store in ventilated place, put a small desiccant packet inside

Wooden / bamboo pill box: Only dry brush, wipe quickly with damp cloth; no soaking, highly susceptible to rot and mold
